Demonic Agendas in Kid Movies?

Wednesday, October 31st, 2007

This Friday, a new movie called “Bee Movie” is coming out. Starring the voice talents of Jerry Seinfeld, Renee Zellweger, and others, it is sure to be a big hit. Here’s the plot synopsis:

Jerry Seinfeld brings his unique brand of humor to the animated tale of a bee who learns that humans have been stealing honey for centuries — and decides to sue them for it. Revenge sure is sweet.

What kind of message is this sending to kids? Maybe we should leave honey alone? On 60 Minutes, a report about bees said:

honeybees are the unsung heroes of the food chain, crucial to the production of one third of the foods we eat.

Oh, but what about the poor bees? Maybe we should just leave bees alone. We’re hurting their feelings.

I am getting tired of seemingly innocent kids movies coming out with a quiet background agenda. Here are some examples:

Theme: Bad humans! Good animals!

This theme isn’t anything new. However, it is in direct conflict with the Biblical mandate to “fill the earth and subdue it.” (Genesis 1:28) No, we’re not supposed to just kill animals for no particular reason, or recklessly destroy the environment that God has given all men to use- we are to be good stewards of what we’ve been given. Animals are here for our use, enjoyment, and consumption.

Offenders: Bee Movie, Happy Feet, Bambi

Theme: Dumb parents, wise kids.

Disobey your parents. It’s OK, you’ll be forgiven and it’ll all work out in the end. This theme is in direct opposition of the Fifth Commandment, “Honor your father and your mother.” (Exodus 20:12)

Offenders: The Lion King, The Little Mermaid, Finding Nemo, Jimmy Neutron

The above list isn’t exhaustive. Do you have any to add? Please do so in the comments.

Reformation Sunday

Monday, October 29th, 2007

We just visited some good friends who had recently moved to Rhode Island. At their church, Grace Community Baptist Church, they observed Reformation Sunday, which was on October 28th.

Pastor Jack Buckley laid a foundation by speaking of the “5 Solas Of The Reformation”:

Sola Scriptura: scripture alone.
The Bible is the only inspired word of God. It’s understandable, and self-interpreting.

Sola Fide: by faith alone.
Justification (being declared right with God) is by faith alone, not good works.

Sola Gratia: by grace alone.
Salvation comes by His grace- unmerited favor- only God acts to save the sinner.

Solus Christus: Christ Alone
Christ is the only mediator between God and man, there is salvation in no other.

Soli Deo Gloria- the glory goes to God alone
All glory is due to Him.

Do you know what the reformation is? Where would we be without it? Are we starting to forget about it?

Death

Wednesday, October 24th, 2007

Death- it’s not exactly a subject we think about every day, but perhaps we ought to think about it more.

Barring the return of Christ, it is something everyone reading this will experience.

The folks at howstuffworks.com released an article with an interesting observation on “the worst way to die.” However, the absolute worst way to die, in my opinion, is to die without Christ.

Here’s the article:

Funny

Wednesday, October 24th, 2007

My son, who is six, had me cracking up with laughter the other day.

Some friends returned from a trip to Brazil and they brought us back some chocolates.

I said to the kids, “look, they brought us Brazilian chocolates!”

The little guy exclaimed, “wow, a zillion chocolates!”

How doe the internet work, anyway?

Friday, October 12th, 2007

I know you’ve been curious- how exactly does the internet work?  What happens when I enter a web site address in my browser?

Here’s a 20 minute video that explains that process.  It’s not boring (well, to me anyway!), and the narrator’s cool British accent really helps keep your attention.  Check it out!

Email Frequency

Friday, October 5th, 2007

Hello Everyone!

One of our fellow members asked if the frequency of emails being sent out could be controlled.

Right now, what happens is Mon-Sat, an email is sent at 7:00 AM est., whether you clicked your email previously or not.

It used to be that you’d get an email only after you clicked your previous email.

So, if you went on vacation and didn’t check your email the whole time (gasp!), you would only have 1 email from me waiting for you when you got back.

What do you think, do you like the way it is now, or would you like the ability to control your email delivery?
