Faster!

September 18th, 2008

I’d like to thank Miguel for emailing me some code that would speed up the typing process on the fifth day of review.  You fast typers who were getting frustrated can rejoice!

I really appreciate all those members who email me with suggestions, code, and improvements for the program.  You make this program great!

Those of you who aren’t currently on your fifth day can test out the new improvement by reviewing your verses.  Do it today!  Review is the key to success in this program.

BTW, Miguel is a student and freelance web developer.  Check out some sites he works on:

Summertime Greetings!

June 26th, 2008

Hello, BibleMemory.us members!

Summertime Fun

I hope you are enjoying your summers so far and have some great plans ahead.

We just got back from a fun weekend in upstate New York at a campground some friends are running called “Jesus Is Lord Park.” You can check out a little web site I did for them at: http://www.JesusIsLordPark.com. We really enjoyed ourselves, and if you like camping, you should pay them a visit! It’s located in the lovely Adirondack Mountains.

Thank you very much!

I wanted to thank some folks for mentioning this program on their blogs:

Thank you all for mentioning this program, I really, really appreciate it. And I also appreciate all you Pastors and others who are spreading the word about BibleMemory.us!

Virtual Spiritual Retreat

My fellow scripture memorization web pal, Phil Walker, is embarking on a 21 day “virtual” spiritual retreat. More information can be found at http://www.wordkeeping.com/.

Another vacation

We’re going away this weekend, too! We’re headed to Michigan for a family reunion at the <a href=”http://www.bavarianinn.com” target=”_blank”>Bavarian Inn</a>. If you email me with a request, don’t think I’m ignoring you- I’m not sure how quickly I’ll get to it or if I’ll have much internet access. I hope I will- I’m bringing my new Apple Macbook! New toys, gotta love ‘em!

New Program: Ephesians

June 9th, 2008

Hello Everyone,

I just uploaded a new program, the entire book of Ephesians!

If you want to try to memorize the book of Ephesians, just go to your profile and change your program.

Thanks to Kevin for supplying me all the references to the book.

I still have a number of custom programs to load for some folks out there, thanks for your patience. I worked over the weekend on an easy way for me to load up new programs, and that’s done now.

Thanks!

Greetings From Another Server

June 1st, 2008

Hello, BibleMemory.us Members!

You may have noticed that we were down for a while on Saturday. I’ve moved the program to a different server. Sorry for the downtime- things like that are never easy, that’s for sure.

If you’re interested, we’re now running on IIS, ColdFusion 8.0, and Microsoft SQL Server 2005.

This is a major change, since we were running on Apache, ColdFusion 5.0 (to my shame), and MySQL. Yeah, everything looks the same, but hopefully you’ll notice a speedier response to your web page requests from BibleMemory.us.

More speedups coming…

I added some things, not as much as I would have liked to, however:

- You can now change your own program

- You can choose to fill in your last day in one big text box, rather than in a bunch of little boxes.

- I made a bunch of changes behind the scenes so I can respond to folk’s requests quicker.

I’m still pondering how I can implement the number 1 request - to add text boxes throughout the week on the verse you’re learning: day 2 two boxes, day 3 more than 2, etc.

Please let me know if you come across any problems: robert@BibleMemory.us.

Thanks for hanging in there with me!  Thanks also to Chris, Cameron, Sam, and others who have made suggestions and offered coding help!  I’ll get to more of your requests and custom program requests now that this is done.

Robert

Thanks!

April 23rd, 2008

I haven’t thanked folks for telling others about the program lately. I know that many people are spreading the word. Thanks for telling friends and people at church.

Two blogs have mentioned the site recently:

http://theopenwindow1.blogspot.com/

If you have a blog, please mention this site or put a link to it in your blogroll!

I’ve been working behind the scenes and I hope to release a new version of the program by June- implementing many suggestions and improvements.

Have a great rest of the week!

Robert

Validating The Gospel in Modesty

April 7th, 2008

Modesty is a hot-topic issue at probably any Bible-believing church. Pastors feel the tension between crossing cultural and ethnic lines, offending church members, being regarded as dirty-minded, and wanting to protect their sheep from stumbling. Unfortunately, in our fallen world and in our fallen natures, these will be issues that we’ll struggle with until Christ returns.

Pastor Albert N. Martin of Trinity Baptist Church in Montville, New Jersey recently preached an excellent message that addresses this topic: Validating The Gospel in Modesty. I highly recommend it.

L.E.D Kippah

It looks like Christianity isn’t the only religion plagued with cutesy gimmicks:

Dog Heroes of September 11th

March 30th, 2008

I saw this book at my dentist’s office, and was kind of surprised that this book existed:

Dog Heroes of September 11th
Dog Heroes of September 11th.
Photo from http://www.dogheroesof911.com

What do you think? Is this a book that’s necessary to the 9/11 story? Just curious what you think.

Here’s an urban legend about a dog named Daisy, followed by two true stories of dogs that helped people on 9/11.

Speaking of 9/11, I saw a trailer for the film “World Trade Center” with Nick Cage. I don’t think I could ever watch that movie, though it looks excellent. It clearly depicts an area that I walked through daily when I worked in New York. I wasn’t working in New York when that wretched act occurred. Have you seen that movie?

Apologies

March 26th, 2008

Hello Everyone,

I wanted to give a quick update regarding the site.  You may have noticed that the site has been down here and there, or asking for a username and password.  I’m aware of the problem, and am taking steps to insure that it doesn’t happen as often as it has lately.

I’m in the process of moving to another hosting company and moving to newer software that should make the program significantly quicker.  It’s a hard, slow, and painful process.

When that’s completed, I’ll be implementing suggestions (and code!) that folks have been giving me.

Thanks for your patience!

Robert
